A new year is upon us and that means it is time for the annual hockey predictions. I've never been right about anything.

Eastern Conference
1. Tampa Bay*
2. Buffalo*
3. New Jersey*
4. Philadelphia
5. Boston
6. Ottawa

Notes: * indicate division winners. Carolina and NY barely make it. Washington barely misses.

Western Conference
1. Detroit*
2. Anaheim*
3. Colorado*
4. San Jose
5. Minnesota
6. Nashville
7. Calgary
8. Columbus

Notes: * indicates division winners.

Oh, and the Islanders get the first pick in the 2007 NHL draft.

On draft day, after a conference with Garth Snow, Mike Milbury, the Easter Bunny, and two astrophysicsts (he hired because they sounded smart), Islanders owner Charles Wang announces that they have drafted Asashoryu.

From the podium, they declare that he is to be paired with Tom Poti on defense.

I like the look of all of them except Tampa and Colorado.
