Sweet Jeebus!
Can't sleep. All of the cigarettes I stole from you guys might have something to do with it. My apologies- I left $5 on the table. I know it doesn't make up for what I drank and smoked, but it's all I had.
So on the way home, right at the railroad tracks at the bottom of Mountain Road, there were two bandanas (one light blue, the other a kind of purple/white mix), the ruins of a blue and white plaid shirt, and what may have once been a black scarf. Next to these, there was a dead chicken. No shit. I have a feeling the chicken might have been headless, but I didn't turn it over to check. Just thought you should know.
Also, I finished a bunch of missions in GTA. The Ice Cream stuff is done, and so is the Boatyard shit. So those will generate money when we stop by. I did a couple of assassination missions too, but the coolest thing I did was the last Tommy Vercetti mission. You have to trick a couple of cops into following you into a garage, and then you can steal their unis. After that, you're supposed to go to the mall and blow a store up before it's investigated so the cops can't trace a bungled job back to you. The book says to use the cop car, but there's another, much cooler way. It's saved under the top save spot (the most recent, for the record, is the one that was recorded at like 4:30am - I think it's the 8th spot).
Here's a hint, if you want to try it: It has nothing to do with the Avenger in the garage at the mansion. Check out the police stations around the city for a better ride.
Unemployed!

The Bush administration was said to be considering several possible regulatory changes to boost consumer confidence. One option is for the USDA to launch a "test and hold" system to segregate carcasses of "downer" cattle, or those too sick to walk, until tests show their meat is safe. A leading U.S. cattle group last week dropped its opposition to such a system.
There was opposition to that....ever? That doesn't seem anything like government for the people.

Last year it was February when everyone in Rangerland said they needed to play like it's the playoffs (in order to make the playoffs). This year the sense of urgency comes in December. That gives me tons of confidence. Tons.
Two words... Golf clubs.
Shine them. Polish em up good like. I hope all the Rangers got 18 packs of Top Flites in their stockings. And coal.

Thank God the Japanese are too busy making dancing robots to work on anything more threatening or we'd all be their slaves by now.

Are you guys having a party for New Years at 235 or what? If not, there's a party in my apartment, whether I like it or not.
I stole Star Wars: Episode II from 235 Ogden, and watched it this morning. Man, that movie SUCKED.

Player Poll: Who is the best NHL referee?
Alright, its not much, but at least someone reputable agrees with me....Quick, call Guinness.
I met and talked to this dude at a party last weekend. It was a Navy Seal party thrown by family friends of ours for active and retired Navy Seals as well as other stragglers such as myself and Mr. O'Keefe (though he was Sect. of The Navy at one point, so he counts more than I). Anyway, he's a nice guy and I'm glad he's weathered any storm about the Columbia disaster.
Also in attendance was the recently-returned head of operations for all Navy Seals in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, I did not talk to him. I doubt he could have told me much anyway.
By the way, never call a Navy Seal, a "pussy lightweight!"

Patrice Bergeron's ascent from second round pick to second line center in less than three months has been nothing short of amazing. Just ask his friends.
"It's just crazy," said Bergeron, the friendly, polite 18-year-old who is among the top rookie scorers in the NHL. "I talk to my friends on the phone and they're like, 'What are you doing?' and I'm like, 'I'm going to L.A.' Then I ask, 'What about you?' and they say, 'Oh, I have a math test tomorrow.' I think it's kind of funny."

Warning: Krugman link - We haven't discussed the 'contracts' issue yet, so I thought this was relevant. The contracts snubbing, along with the request to forgive Iraq's debts is a double-diss....Combined with the confirmed 'profiteering', this is becoming another PR nightmare.

The Cleveland Scene sent a letter to Dustin Lynch, who is in jail awaiting trial. Below are excerpts from his responses.
Do you regret killing JoLynn?
No I don't regret what I did and I never will. I did her a favor and satisfied all my needs while doing it! This GTA III stuff kills me though! What a crock of holy shit!
It's a short article, but a really interesting read.

"I am not amused," Mr. Twomey said via a cellphone outside the conference room Friday evening after he was barred from the planning meeting. "At Icann, anybody can attend meetings, appeal decisions or go to ombudsmen. And here I am outside a U.N. meeting room where diplomats - most of whom know little about the technical aspects - are deciding in a closed forum how 750 million people should reach the Internet."
And they'll only let you see, what they want you to see. Not this. Or any of that.

At the outset, the purpose of the Civil War for Lincoln was to oppose secession and preserve the Union. It was really only after the battle at Gettysburg that Lincoln articulated a larger purpose for the Civil War — namely freedom and the elimination of slavery.

From the Journal News and The NYTimes and straight lifted from HockeyBird:
"Lundmark, 22, suffered ligament damage to his right knee after the center-ice hit (by Michael Peca) at 9:28 of the second period and did not return."
Or as Bobby Holik put it...
"He likes to hit late when players don't see him. I wasn't surprised. He doesn't hit too many people who look him in the eye."

Do you remember the letter that Mike Ranney wrote me? You do? Do you remember how he ended it? "I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day when he said, 'Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?' Grandpa said, No... but I served in a company of heroes."
God damn.

"On many occasions Liu Ling, under the influence of wine, would be completely free and uninhibited, sometimes taking off his clothes and sitting naked in his room. Once when some scholars saw him and chided him for it, Liu retorted, 'I take heaven and earth for my pillars and roof, and the rooms of my house for my pants and coat... What are you gentlemen doing in my pants?"

He earns his money off the ice as well. What was once the most laughable signing of the Sather-era seems to be proving its worth.
"Nine goals we've allowed to Toronto, half a dozen have been within five feet of the crease," said Holik, who refused to blame officiating. That's a great excuse for some people, but you don't allow nine goals in two games and blame it on the referees. You want to win games, you have to play better in your own end. That's just the truth, sometimes it hurts, but that's the way I look at it."
